COAS books is a new and used bookstore that is in the heart of downtown Las Cruces, NM. Because of its central location, this bookstore is perfect for couples that want to venture around downtown during their engagement photoshoot. And that is exactly what Nicole and Rick did! We started at a cozy coffee shop, right nearby to help ease Nicole & Rick in front of the camera and then we headed to the bookstore. I always tell couples that my goal with any photoshoot is to feel like I am blending into the background while capturing the genuine moments as they unfold. This helps engagement shoots feel more like a romantic date night!

Things to Know Before Planning Your Engagement Shoot at a Bookstore

1. Make sure that you have permission from the bookstore before planning your engagement shoot there. You don’t want to end up upsetting the owners and having to frantically search for a new spot for your engagement photos! P.S. I help my couples with this by coordinating the plans so that they don’t have to add another thing to their to-do list when booking! 
2. Be aware of busy hours to make your engagement shoot more intimate and to help calm any nerves about being photographed in front of a crowd. Pro Tip: For COAS, consider going later in the day to avoid the hustle and bustle of the morning farmers market. 
3. Have faith in your photographer! Nicole & Rick stayed fully present with each other because they trusted my vision wholeheartedly. This meant I could guide them with prompts while they relaxed and enjoyed each other’s company, without worrying about replicating shots from their Pinterest board.

Reach for books that catch your eye and share them with your partner. Find a ladder to help reach the taller books on top of the shelves.
